Considering worrying issues associated with one-sided international trade, political confrontation and cultural differences between West and East, viewing globalization as a positive force may be a mistake, albeit in part at great interest.
Beneath seemingly beneficial international trade resulted from globalization, developing countries have been suffering multilayered detriments such as low wages and poor conditions of labor. In order to sell commodities in wealthier countries, workers in low-income countries have often been abused in dire environment. While their human right has been neglected, manufacturing companies outsourcing to poorer communities only aiming at slashing costs are free to exploit local labor, including children.
In addition to drawing autonomy and economic growth away from developing countries, globalization also has led to geopolitical dissent exemplified by, for example, ownership of integrated markets and possession of valuable natural resources. Ironically enough, these issues have altogether been occurring from authoritative governments of wealthier countries, attempting to instigate conflicts. Without being interconnected, local citizens are often deprived of their own decisions of what is happening in their territory, economy and local consumption.
Even more concerning is the one-sided cultural coercion of powerful country onto weaker countries. While globalization does contain many upsides from the perspective of multi-culturalism, any pressure modifying inherent culture is untenable. If multi-culturalism carries on under suppression by marginalizing what foreign people value, the process of intercultural communication will become unhealthy. Once cultural dissatisfaction arose, further painstaking efforts are necessary to seek conciliation.
Globalization is not the only yardstick for determining how good today's world is. Although above-mentioned reasons are just some of the problems, nevertheless we should not be inadvertent of them if we were to make a more globalized world. As far as these aspects of globalization are ignored, a positive force of globalization is unfortunately doubtful.
